The Classics With a Twist Book Club tackles titles from Tim Federle’s Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails With a Literary Twist, and for our next selection, we thought we’d lighten the mood a little and read (or re-read) the classic, coming-of-age novel Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume. As Federle notes, this was the original YA superstar, before all the wizards and vampires stole the spotlight. In the novel, Margaret faces “all of life’s big ol’ quandaries, from God to boys to bra size,” Federle writes. We know what you’re thinking: I’ve already lived through puberty once. Why would I want to go back there again? Well, the first time around, you didn’t have margaritas to help you through (at least, we hope you didn’t).
Book club host Theresa Hegel will provide the makings of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margarita.” You supply the painful and embarrassing memories.
