Classics With a Twist!
Does Shakespeare give you the shakes? Does Charles scare the dickens out of you? It's nothing a little liquid courage won't solve. In our Classics With a Twist book club, we'll be brushing up our knowledge of the literary canon AND our amateur mixology skills, tackling titles from Tim Federle's irreverent Tequila Mockingbird: Cocktails With a Literary Twist, which, in Federle's words, is a "SparkNotes with a liquor license."
First up is Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte's 1847 novel about an orphan girl turned governess. Federle describes Eyre as "Gloria Steinem in a bonnet." Book club host Theresa Hegel will be supplying the makings for the "Gin Eyre," which includes mint leaves and orange bitters. Participants are welcome to partake of the signature drink or bring their own beverage. Hope to see you there!
Classics With a Twist Bookclub meets every other month, on a Friday night.
First meeting: Friday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m.
First pick: Jane Eyre (drink is Gin Eyre)
